With the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 currently underway in and Sri Lanka, the Women in Blue will next play arch-rivals Pakistan Women.
The match is scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 5 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. While the Harmanpreet Kaur-led India Women are coming after a 59-run win over Sri Lanka by DLS method, Pakistan Women were handed a seven-wicket drubbing at the hands of Bangladesh Women.
As the eyes will be set on Sunday’s game, India Women will hope to continue their domination over their arch-rivals, the Women in Green on the other hand will hope to get their first win. But as the two nations’ rivalry stands at the moment, the biggest question which comes to the mind is whether the India Women continue the handshake snub row in the CWC 2025?
I cannot assure you of anything: Devajit Saikia responds to handshake row ahead of IND W vs PAK W CWC match
Although the question arises after the Indian men’s team avoided handshakes in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2025 against Pakistan, it remains unknown whether the India Women will continue this stance in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2025. Speaking to the media ahead of the crucial game, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia addressed on the same.
Speaking to the BCC Stumped, Saikia said, ‘I cannot forecast anything, but our relationship with that particular hostile country is the same; there is no change in the last week. ‘India will play that match against Pakistan in Colombo, and all cricket protocols will be followed. I can only assure that whatever is in the MCC regulations of cricket, that will be done. Whether there will be handshakes, whether there will be hugging, I cannot assure you of anything at this moment,’ he continued.
Speaking of India Women’s record against Pakistan Women, the Women in Blue are far ahead in the battle, having won 11 games so far in Women ODIs. While the Hrmanpreet Kaur-led side will aim to maintain their unbeaten record over their arch-rivals, the Fatima Sana and Co. will be hoping to turn around things.
