Will human death become a thing of the past in the coming few years? This is the claim of former Google engineer and famous forecaster Ray Kurzweil. He has recently said that by 2030 i.e. within just 5 years from now, humans can become immortal.
This is no ordinary thing, because Kurzweil has made 147 predictions so far, more than 86% of which have been proven correct.
Where did this claim originate from? In Ray Kurzweil’s famous book The Singularity is Near, he wrote for the first time that in the coming years, technology will develop so much that humans can become an immortal species. In this book, he specifically mentions Genetics, Nanotechnology, and Robotics – which he considers to be the keys to immortality.
How will technology give immortality? According to Kurzweil, the pace of technological development has become so fast that we will soon be able to create nanobots, i.e. micro robots, which will work by living in the human body. These nanobots will: -Repair damaged cells in the body -Slow down the aging process -Fight diseases, even serious diseases like cancer
These small robots will float in the body and keep repairing it all the time. In such a situation, the body will not age, and the human being can live forever.
AI and computers will also play an important role Kurzweil believes that by 2029, computers will become as intelligent as humans. Such smart computers will be able to understand, copy and even think better than the human brain. In the future, this distance between humans and AI will gradually end.
Which predictions have come true? Ray Kurzweil doesn’t just talk, many of the things he says have already come true:
-In 1990 he had said that by 2000 no human would be able to beat a computer in chess. It came true in 1997, when IBM’s ‘Deep Blue’ computer defeated world chess champion Garry Kasparov.
-In 1999 he predicted that by 2023, just a $1000 laptop would be able to handle as much information as the human brain. It’s true – today’s AI-based computers and laptops are extremely fast and intelligent.
-By 2010, fast wireless internet will be in every corner of the world – this is also today’s reality, when 4G has reached the villages of India and 5G is becoming common.
