New Delhi: The Indian Government hasWill BCCI end partnership with sponsor Dream 11? Secretary Sakia provides big update passed a new online gaming bill in the Lok Sabha on August 20, which proposes a ban on real money games. The bill might halt the BCCI’s ties with the official jersey sponsor Dream 11.
The company signed a Rs 358 crore deal with the Indian Board for three years, and the partnership will end in March 2026, but the introduction of the new gaming bill has created chaos between both bodies.
The BCCI came in full support of the Indian government’s two new bills- The National Sports Governance Law 2025 and Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025. The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also came out in support of the new bills and stated that they will stick to the laws.
The online gaming law will have a huge impact on the Indian cricket team, as apart from Dream 11, another fantasy app, My11Circle, holds the fantasy gaming rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) until 2028 and paid a hefty amount of Rs 625 crore to sign the five-year deal.
There is a thin line between online real money games and skill-based real money games, but the BCCI secretary said that Dream 11 relies on the skill-based game. In the new bill central government will set up a new authority to oversee regulation in the ‘online real money game’ as the government defined the game as ‘where a user makes a deposit, directly or indirectly, with the expectation of earning a win on that deposit.’
Saikia also added that whenever the act comes into force, they will follow the rules. “Take the example of cigarettes and liquor. Has the BCCI taken any sponsorship from the cigarettes and liquor companies since taking sponsorship from these kinds of companies was banned? So, whatever is permissible under the laws in force in our country, we will do that only. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country that is framed by the central government, ” Saikia said as quoted by the Times of India.
What does the National Sports Governance Law bill state?
The National Sports Governance Law 2025 allowed the Indian cricket team to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025. But the bilateral series between both nations remains suspended, and both arch-rivals will step onto the ground together only for the multination tournaments.
India and Pakistan are placed in Group A of the Asia Cup, and if both teams play to their full potential, then they might face each other three times in the tournament, including the final. The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played between September 9 to 28 in the UAE.
