Will 500 rupee notes be closed? Government has done confusions away!

RBI decided to withdraw 2000 rupees about 2 years ago. Now there is an update that the notes will soon be out of circulation but their legal tender will remain. Meanwhile, a news is becoming very viral on social media, in which it is being claimed that from March 2026, 500 rupee notes will be out of trend. Gradually these notes will stop coming out of the ATM. The PIB has removed the confusion of the people by checking the fact and called this news fake.

People are getting a message on WhatsApp, in which it is being said that the Reserve Bank of India has instructed all banks to stop extracting 500 rupee notes from their ATMs by 30 September 2025. Its goal is to remove 500 notes from 75% banks’ ATMs and by 31 March 2026, these notes should be completely closed from 90% ATM. After this, only 100 and 200 rupee notes will be available from ATMs. Therefore, start spending 500 rupee notes from now on.

PIB did fact check

The PIB Fact Czech has termed this message completely fake. PIB said in a post on social media platform X that the Reserve Bank has not issued any such order and 500 rupee notes are still legally valid. This means that 500 rupee notes can be used without any problem. PIB has asked people to beware of such misleading news. The PIB Fact check unit has advised to use reliable sources like official website to check the truth of any information. Also, if a message seems suspicious, then complain about it so that wrong information can be prevented from spreading.

At present, no official statement has been given to the Reserve Bank of India regarding the ban on the trend of Rs 500. These notes are present in the market.
