Basti UP Missing Woman Case: The woman for whom murder case was registered was found alive after two years. An OTP received on the husband’s mobile revealed the whole secret. After the recovery of the live-in woman in Rajasthan, legal action is now underway regarding the custody of the child.
A case reported from Basti district of Uttar Pradesh raises serious questions on police records, family relationships and digital identity. The woman whose murder case was filed by her own husband was found alive after two years. Surprisingly, the clue to the truth came not from any witness or evidence, but from an OTP. This entire incident is related to Pilkhaw village of Kaptanganj police station area.
Seven years of married life and then increasing disputes
According to the information, Priyanka was married to Sandeep on 14 May 2017. The couple lived a normal life in the initial years and had a son. According to family members, with time the disputes between husband and wife started increasing.
It was told that on July 1, 2024, the fight escalated so much that Priyanka took the jewelery from the house and went to her maternal home. From there she reached Ayodhya along with her son. She was about to attempt suicide on the banks of river Saryu, when a person named Mangalchandra, who had come to visit from Rajasthan, stopped her. He reportedly saved the lives of Priyanka and her son. After this Priyanka decided to start a new life and went to Rajasthan with Mangalchandra, where both started living in a live-in relationship.

FIR of murder registered in Basti
Here in the colony, Sandeep remained worried due to the disappearance of his wife and son. When no clue was found even after a lot of searching, she suspected that her in-laws had murdered Priyanka and the child out of greed for the jewellery, and thrown the bodies in the river. Sandeep complained to the police. When the hearing did not take place, he approached the court. On court orders, on November 4, 2024, a murder case was registered against Priyanka’s parents, cousin sister and another person.
An OTP changed the direction of the entire investigation
The police did not have any concrete clues for almost two years. Meanwhile, Priyanka, living in Rajasthan, went to the Aadhaar center to update her identity. As soon as he entered the old Aadhaar number, an OTP was sent to the mobile number linked to it, which was still with Sandeep. When Sandeep saw the OTP, he doubted that Priyanka was alive. He immediately informed the police. After this the location was traced through electronic surveillance and digital tracking.
Seizure from Rajasthan and emotional confrontation
Basti police team reached Rajasthan and recovered Priyanka. When he was brought to Basti, the situation was extremely emotional and tense. Sandeep gave an emotional reaction after seeing his wife and son, but he clearly said that he does not want to keep Priyanka with him, only wants to bring his son with him. The matter became more complicated when the child refused to go with Sandeep and also refused to accept him as his father.
Police official statement and further action
According to ASP Shyamkant, the FIR of murder was registered on the orders of the court. After the woman was found alive, her statement has been recorded in the court. Now the process of filing the final report in the case is going on. The legal process regarding the custody of the child has been started. The court will decide with whom the future of the child is secure.
Questions on digital identity and legal process
This case shows how family disputes can escalate into criminal trials. Also, the importance of mobile linking in digital identity systems like Aadhaar also came to the fore. If the mobile number is not updated, both access to personal information and legal complications may increase.
