A DSP from Lahore was arrested for the murder of his wife and daughter. He committed the crime following a domestic dispute and lodged a false FIR of kidnapping to divert the investigation. After forensic evidence he confessed to his crime.
Lahore: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Lahore has been arrested for murdering his wife and minor daughter and fabricating a false kidnapping case to mislead investigators. According to The Express Tribune, police officials said that the first DSP, Muhammad Usman Haider, confessed during interrogation on Saturday that he killed his wife and daughter following a long-running domestic dispute. After the murders, he lodged a false FIR at Barki police station in Lahore, claiming that the two had been kidnapped.
The FIR stated that the DSP’s wife-aunt went missing on September 27, while a formal application to register a kidnapping case was given on October 18. After this, the police started investigation, after which a case was registered. The suspicion deepened when the victim’s sister contacted the authorities and suspected the DSP’s involvement.
Forensic teams recovered blood samples from the suspect’s home, including samples taken from the bed and door. The lab results further confirmed the suspicion, following which senior officials confronted the DSP during a high-level questioning. After the forensic results were presented, the suspect confessed to his crime. After this, the police recovered both the bodies from different places. The daughter’s body was found in Kahana area of Lahore, while the wife’s remains were recovered from Sheikhupura.
Initial investigation reveals that the motive behind this crime was a property dispute. Police said that the accused had two marriages and had purchased a plot in the name of his first wife. He sold the property without her consent and used the money for his brother’s marriage, leading to frequent fights in the house. During interrogation, the accused told investigators that he murdered his wife with a sharp weapon, which has been recovered. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of the minor daughter and also finding out whether anyone else was involved. Police said a close associate of the accused has been detained for questioning, while the DSP’s second wife has also been included in the investigation. “The accused will be tried completely on merit and punished as per law,” the police spokesperson said.
