The inauguration of Jewar International Airport was again postponed due to non-availability of airdrome license from DGCA. Operation not possible until safety and technical checks are completed. Now the new date of inauguration is expected to be announced in mid-January 2026.
The atmosphere at Jewar International Airport in Noida was full of excitement. The huge stage was ready, the tents were erected, the sound system was being tested and the security arrangements were almost in place. It seemed that any moment now another world-class airport in the country would be formally opened. But meanwhile everything suddenly stopped. Just before the inauguration the link on which the entire event rested broke – the airdrome license.
Entire program canceled due to non-availability of airdrome license
Large-scale preparations for the inauguration of Jewar International Airport were almost complete, but the final approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is still pending. Without an aerodrome license, flight operations are not allowed at any airport.

Kharmas became the second major hurdle, now there is hope of inauguration next year
According to officials, DGCA is completing the formalities of some important points related to security and technical investigation. The license will be given only after these processes are completed.
Along with this, big auspicious programs are not organized during Kharmas starting from 16th December. Therefore, it is believed that the inauguration of the airport may now be postponed till mid-January 2026.
Disappointment among people, but hopes remain intact
There is definitely disappointment among the local people and the western region of UP due to the postponement of the inauguration. Many people were excited about the opportunities for employment, investment and better connectivity. Although there is still hope that the inauguration may be delayed, but when it happens, it will be included among the best airports in the country.
Construction of first phase almost complete
In the first phase of the airport, construction of runway, taxiway, terminal building and parking area in 1,334 hectare area has been completed. All technical tests related to baggage handling system, boarding process, security screening and passenger management are said to be successful. Only some security and technical inspection formalities remain.
What is an airdrome license?
Airdrome license is the official permission without which flights cannot be started at any airport. It is issued by DGCA only when the airport meets all the safety, technical and operational standards. The license is granted only after detailed inspection and documentation processes are completed.
