Director S. S. Rajamouli’s film ‘Bahubali: The Epic’ has been released and it has got a tremendous start at the box office. This film has been made by combining the previous two parts of the franchise. But at the time of editing, a lot of parts have been removed from both the films, including Tamannaah Bhatia’s song and her love story with Prabhas. Why did the makers do this? What is the length of ‘Bahubali: The Epic’?
During a promotional interaction, Rajamouli, the film’s lead actor Prabhas and the villain talked about ‘Baahubali: The Epic’. During this, he told that many scenes were not included in the new version. He says, “After combining both the parts and removing the rolling titles, the total duration of the film was 5 hours 27 minutes. The current version, however, is 3 hours 43 minutes long. Many parts have been removed, including Avantika’s (Tamanna Bhatia) love story with Shiva (Prabhas), songs ‘Panchhi Bole Hain Kya’, ‘Kanha So Jaa Zara’ and ‘Manohari’.”
Why did Rajamouli remove many parts from the film?
Explaining the reason for removing several parts from the film, Rajamouli said, “Every scene in Baahubali is emotionally and narratively important. But we wanted the new version to be completely based on the story. The first cut was about 4 hours 10 minutes long. We did a special screening for both cinema and non-cinema audiences. After that, considering the reactions we got, we reduced its duration to 3 hours 43 minutes.”
The director admitted that the idea of combining the two films came to his mind five years ago with the intention of seeing if the story could be told in a single film. Rajamouli told that he tried liner narration, but it did not work. Then he tried to reduce the length of the scene, but this idea also did not work. After this he decided to remove some episodes from the film, including Avantika-Shiva’s love story and three songs.
How much did Baahubali: The Epic earn on the first day?
‘Bahubali: The Epic’ had collected around Rs 1.15 crore from the special premiere on Thursday. On the day of its release on Friday, its earning was Rs 9.25 crore. Including the premiere and first day’s earnings, its total collection is approximately Rs 10.4 crore. Apart from Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty, Satyaraj and Ramya Krishnan also have important roles in the film.
