Why was Dhurandhar 2 not available on Netflix? How many crores was the deal done with Jio hotstar?

The OTT deal of Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster film Dhurandhar 2 has created a stir in the digital market. According to reports, the streaming rights of the film have been sold for a huge amount, making it one of the biggest digital deals of Bollywood.

According to trade reports, the digital streaming rights of ‘Dhurandhar 2′ have been acquired by Jio Hotstar instead of Netflix. This decision is said to be a part of Jio Studios’ strategy, which was aimed at further increasing the value of the non-theatrical rights of the film.

Bollywood Hungama report quoting sources has written that before the release of the first film, Netflix had offered about Rs 175 crore to buy the digital rights of both the parts together. But the makers were confident about their content, so they did not finalize the deal at that time.

According to the report, the decision to wait proved beneficial. Now the digital rights of ‘Dhurandhar 2’ alone have been sold for around Rs 150 crore. This amount is being counted among the big OTT deals of recent years.

It is being told that the digital rights of the first part of ‘Dhurandhar’ were sold for around Rs 85 crore. In comparison, the second part has been successful in achieving almost double the price, which shows the increasing popularity of the film.

In recent times, OTT platforms were adopting a cautious approach in purchasing content. But the theatrical success of ‘Dhurandhar’ and audience demand forced streaming companies to offer a premium price. Trade experts are considering this as a positive sign for content-driven films.
