Azad’s secret hideout in Jaipur

After the Kakori incident in 1930, when the British rule followed him, Chandrashekhar Azad took refuge in many places. In Jaipur, he stayed for two months as a relative at the Haveli on Baba Harishchandra Marg of Rajvaidya Pandit Mukti Narayan Shukla. Here, he used to change the disguise to meet freedom fighters in the city and surrounding areas by bicycle.

Travel to Bassi and Story of Heritage

One day when the British police came to know about their presence, Azad immediately decided to leave. Along with Awadhesh Narayan Shukla, he rode on the same bicycle and reached Bassi railway station via Ghatgate, Kanota. From there, the train of Allahabad caught and handed over his bicycle and lathi to the Shukla family. After some time, in Allahabad (Prayagraj), he attained martyrdom by firing the last bullet in an encounter with the British.

Not only an object, but part of history

These bicycles and sticks are not just personal items of a freedom fighter, but are a living witness to India’s freedom struggle. Keeping them away from the public is not only injustice to history, but also the neglect of that sacrifice, which gave us an opportunity to see the sun of independent India.
