Aditya Dhar‘s aesthetics in music is rich, and there is no denying this. When he returned to the director’s chair after six years, he treated the audience by bringing classics back.
From iconic Hindi songs to tracks rooted in global cinema, the filmmaker knows how to make the most with music. With Dhurandhar 2, Aditya pairs Bombay Rockers’ cult song, Aari Aari, with a full-blown action piece that establishes Ranveer Singh’s character Jaskirat Singh Rangi‘s back story. The film begins with a chartbuster and ends with a significant track that has its own history.
Rasputin in Dhurandhar 2
Aditya uses the 1978 hit by Boney M, in one of the crucial scenes in Dhurandhar 2. Based on the life of Grigori Rasputin, the song has its significance. In Dhurandhar 2’s context, Rasputin plays in the final 30 minutes of the film. ‘s identity as an Indian spy has been disclosed to Omar (Aditya Uppal), who becomes the new SP after Chaudhary Aslam (Sanjay Dutt) dies in a car blast. After he burns Major Iqbal (Arjun Rampal) to death, Omar arrests him and tortures him. Lt General Shamshad Hassan (Raj Zutshi) monitors the situation.
IB chief Ajay Sanyal (R Madhavan) calls him to free Hamza/Jaskirat. The Indian intelligence officer possesses a video that could expose Shamshad in Pakistani media. The video features him leaking sensitive information about Pakistan to Israel. Fearing that his position would be compromised if the video leaks, stops the assault on Hamza and frees him. When the leaked video plays on the screen, the song Rasputin runs in the background.

Who is Grigori Rasputin?
was a controversial figure in Russian history. He was a ‘holy wanderer, who became a trusted advisor to the Romanovs and gained political sway that was criticised by the Russian elite during World War I. He had a major influence on Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra as he seemed to heal their haemophiliac son, Alexei.
Over the years, Rasputin had turned dangerous and powerful. To end his influence on the Queen of Russia and her family, he was killed on December 30, 1916, by a group of Russian nobles led by Prince Felix Yusupov, Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, and politician Vladimir Purishkevich. They poisoned him, shot him and drowned him at the Moika Palace.

Why Rasputin in Dhurandhar 2?
Though subtle, there is a significance behind using Rasputin in Dhurandhar 2. Similar to Grigori, Shamshad and Omar were growing powerful and dangerous. The latter’s death through lynching was certain if the video was leaked by Indian intelligence. His betrayal to Pakistan would have cost a lot. Like Grigori, Shamshad’s position has been put at risk, and his stature is under the sword.
Besides Rasputin, Dhurandhar 2 uses songs such as the Baazigar title song. The first part included classics like Ramba Ho, Hawa Hawa and many more.
