World Students Day 2025: World Students Day is celebrated every year on 15 October in India. The purpose of celebrating this is to remember Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on his birth anniversary. He not only made important contributions to science and technology, but also inspired millions of students to dream and fulfill them. Dr. Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu. His family was ordinary. The father was a boat owner and the Imam of the local mosque, while the mother looked after the household. Since childhood, Dr Kalam had immense desire and curiosity to learn.
Dr Kalam’s education qualification: From Ramanathapuram to MIT
He did his early education from Schwartz Higher Secondary School, Ramanathapuram and obtained his graduation degree in Physics from St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli in 1954. His keen interest in flying and aeronautics drew him to Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), where he studied Aeronautical Engineering. This was the foundation stone on which his amazing scientific career was built.
Dr Kalam was also a teacher and guide
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was not only a great scientist but also a good teacher and guide. He believed that every student has the ability to dream big and fulfill them. All you need is right direction and hard work. For this reason his birthday in India has been dedicated to the students.

World Students Day is celebrated not only in India but at the international level.
A small mistake usually occurs regarding World Students Day. People often think that the United Nations (UN) has declared October 15 as World Students Day. Actually it is not so. UN National Information Officer Rajeev Chandran also said that no such official announcement has been made. According to the UN website, October 15 is celebrated as International Day of Rural Women. This day is especially to recognize the contribution of rural women and their important role in agricultural development. International Students Day is celebrated in the world on 17 November. That is, World Students Day is celebrated on 15 October only in India. This day inspires students with the hard work, simplicity and patriotism of Dr. Kalam. His message was clear – ‘Dream, work hard and do something for the country.’ This precious legacy of Dr Kalam will always remain a source of inspiration and guidance for the students.
