Donald Trump and Noble peace prize: We all have noticed that US President Donald Trump is no longer giving much importance to his desire to get the Nobel Peace Prize.
Moreover, the US President is instead trying to show himself as if he has no desire for this honor. Whereas earlier, Trump had called many countries of the world and had reportedly requested them to nominate him for the Nobel peace prize. In such a situation, the question arises that why did Trump change his mind. Did India’s refusal hurt him or did he realize that he was not going to get this award. So, is this the reason why the US President is now adopting a strategy to show himself apart from the list of Noble prize candidates?
What Donald Trump said on stopping wars for peace?
In a conversation with CBS News, Trump said, “I have nothing to say. I can only stop the war. I do not want to attract attention. I just want to save people’s lives.” However, this statement does not match his old statements, when he was openly demanding the Nobel Prize by giving himself credit for ending many international conflicts. At that time, some of America’s allies had also raised their voice in favor of Trump.
Therefore, it’s likely that he is withdrawing from the unofficial candidature to save his respect if he doesn’t get the Noble prize.
Story highlight:
- It has been observed that Donald Trump is no longer talking about his desire to get the Nobel Peace Prize.
- Earlier, he used to position himself as the best candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
- The reason behind the move could be the recent India-US tensions and India’s refusal to support his candidature.
Who announces the Nobel Peace Prize?
The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced by the Norwegian Nobel Committee on October 10. So far, four US presidents have received this honour, including Barack Obama. Trump lamented in February, “They will never give me the Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they won’t.”
In July, his press secretary Caroline Levitt and several aides formally sought his nomination. Countries like Israel and Pakistan also nominated Trump, but India refused to do so.
