Why is the sudden increase in BP in pregnant women? Know the symptoms of pre-eclampsia

High blood pressure in pregnancy: Pregnancy time is very special for every woman. But during this time there are many changes in the body, which can sometimes become the cause of trouble. One such dangerous change is the sudden increase in blood pressure. This is not a normal situation. Many times it can be a sign of a big medical condition, which is named Pre-Aclampsia.

Initially, the high BP of pregnancy does not seem so serious. Some people feel that a little BP increases, what is the matter of worry in this. But when it is constantly increased or suddenly goes up rapidly, then it can become a danger bell for both mother and child’s life.

Symptoms of BP growing in pregnant women

Dr. Subhash Giri of Medicine at RML Hospital in Delhi says that it can be a sign of a big disturbance of the body, so that BP is headed, swelling in front of the eyes, swelling on the feet and face. Many times doctors also consider it as a normal high BP in the initial investigation. But if this condition occurs after the 20th week of pregnancy, then it can be dangerous to take it lightly. Its real name is- Pre-Eclampsia.

Now the question is-what is this pre-eclampsia?

This is a medical condition that occurs to pregnant women and increases the amount of protein in urin along with blood pressure. This means that the kidney is not working properly. Gradually it also affects the placenta i.e. the child that gives oxygen and nutritional organ. If it is not treated in time, it can prevent the growth of the child. Premature delivery may have to be done or the mother may also increase the risk of seizures (Caesar).

There can be many reasons behind this such as pregnancies for the first time, having a twin baby, a kidney or BP disease or family history. Apart from this, obesity, old age and stress can also trigger it.

So now the question arises how to rescue?

  • Monitor BP daily.
  • Reduce the amount of salt.
  • Drink sufficient amount of water
  • Keep yourself away from stress
  • It is very important to get a doctor checked in every stage of pregnancy.
  • If the doctor is telling BP more, do not ignore it.

Even the above mentioned methods do not get relief or if there is a sharp headache, feel like vomiting, if the eyes have problems with light, then go to the hospital and get it checked immediately. Any kind of physical problems in pregnancy can be taken up to serious consequences, hence caution is the cure.
