If you are doing Chhath Puja for the first time, then let us tell you that to make Kosi, first keep the Chhath Puja basket at one place and make an umbrella around it with the help of five or seven sugarcanes. Before erecting the sugarcane, place thekua and fruits wrapped in red cloth on top of the basket. Place a clay elephant inside the basket and a pitcher on top of it. Apply vermillion on the elephant. Then, place thekua, fruits, corn, ginger, radish etc. in the pitcher. During this time, some people also light 12 or 24 lamps inside Kosi. After this the women sing traditional Chhath songs. At the end of the puja, havan is performed by pouring incense into Kosi and praying to Chhathi Maiya for fulfillment of wishes.
