During the hearing of a case regarding inclusion of sex education in the school curriculum, the court has expressed disagreement with the curriculum presented by the state government.
The court said that sex education should be made a part of the syllabus from an early age and should not be limited to classes 9 to 12.
Following the court order, the state government filed an additional affidavit. It said sex education is part of the school curriculum from classes 9 to 12, and the curriculum is in line with NCERT guidelines.
Court left the responsibility of reform to the officials
The court did not agree with this time limit for the course. The court left it to the authorities to take necessary and corrective steps on this important issue.
The court commented that
‘The authorities concerned should use their discretion and take corrective measures so that children are informed about the changes occurring after puberty and the care and precautions related to them.’ The court stressed that it is very important for children to get correct information about their physical development and related precautions at the right time.
