According to the legend, once there was a debate among all the sages as to who was the best among the three gods. To find out this, sage Bhrigu is chosen. The sage first goes to the creator Brahma Ji.
He deliberately neither salutes Lord Brahma nor greets him with folded hands. Lord Brahma gets angry with this. After this he goes to Lord Shiva and behaves in the same manner, due to which Lord Shiva also becomes angry.
Lord Vishnu got angry
At last he reaches to meet Lord Vishnu, where Lord Vishnu is in Yoga Nidra. The sages try every possible way to wake up Lord Vishnu but only God wakes up. This makes the sage very angry and kicks him in the chest.
After this, Lord Vishnu pressed the feet of Bhrigu Rishi and asked whether your tree got hurt by my hard chest. Seeing this, sage Bhrigu becomes convinced that Lord Vishnu is the best among the three gods.
Goddess Lakshmi gave this curse
After this incident, Mother Lakshmi becomes very angry and curses Bhrigu Rishi. Giving a curse, Mother Lakshmi says that she will never go to the house of Brahmins and they will always remain poor.
