A woman set fire to her broken e-rickshaw in Shivpuri. Frustrated with the showroom’s refusal to repair for 4 months, he took this step. He had bought this car on a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Bhopal: When the faulty e-rickshaw was not repaired even after visiting showrooms for months, a woman set it on fire in the middle of the road. This incident took place in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. A woman named Gudiya Maurya set fire to her e-rickshaw, her means of livelihood. The car bought after spending lakhs in the hope of a better life got burnt to ashes in the middle of the road. Eyewitnesses said that the woman poured petrol on the e-rickshaw and set it on fire. There was chaos when a vehicle caught fire in a crowded market.
Gudiya told about this incident – ‘About six months ago, Gudiya and her husband Narayan had bought an e-rickshaw by taking a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh. The family with three children was not able to survive on the meager earnings of a daily wage labourer, hence the husband and wife took this step. But the car broke down within two months of purchase.
Gudiya alleged, “For the last four months, I have been making rounds of the showroom. I requested them to fix the car, but they used to shoo me away.” After the closure of the car, Gudiya again had to work as a daily wage laborer and repaying the loan became a big burden. The woman said that when the agency clearly said that the vehicle could not be repaired, she took this step.
However, the showroom has denied these allegations. Showroom incharge Shubham Sharma said that the battery of the e-rickshaw had burst, there was no other problem with the rickshaw. He said that there is no rule in the company’s policy to replace a burst battery. The woman was advised to buy a new battery at her own expense. Police reached the spot and extinguished the fire. The statements of Gudiya and showroom officials have been recorded. Gudiya demands that either she be given a new car or the entire amount paid so far should be returned.
