Actors Suriya and Jyotika reportedly left their Rs 200 crore bungalow in Chennai and moved into a 1,700-square-foot home in Mumbai.
The decision surprised many, but the couple reportedly made the move during the pandemic for personal and family reasons.
Suriya said one of the main reasons behind the move was Jyotika. She had lived in Chennai for 27 years after moving there from Mumbai at a young age and had made several sacrifices for their marriage, including stepping away from parts of her career, friends and family.
Suriya reportedly felt that Jyotika deserved the opportunity to reconnect with her roots and spend more time with her family.
The couple also wanted better opportunities for their children, while Mumbai offered Jyotika more professional opportunities as well.
Suriya said women should be able to pursue their own dreams and have freedom and personal space. He wanted Jyotika to have those things in her life.
He also said he enjoys living in their Mumbai home, describing it as warm and comfortable.
According to him, the smaller space has brought the family closer, with the rooms located near one another and greater privacy within the home.
For Suriya, happiness matters more than the size or luxury of a house. He believes a peaceful family life is more important than living in a large property.
The couple’s decision shows that a smaller home can still offer comfort, freedom and happiness.
