Why did Kamalinee Mukherjee quit Telugu cinema after her 2014 film with Ram Charan?

New Delhi: Actor Kamalinee Mukherjee, once a familiar face in Telugu cinema, has finally revealed why she walked away from the industry after her last appearance in the 2014 film Govindudu Andarivadele. For the unversed, the family drama was directed by Krishna Vamsi and featured Ram Charan and Kajal Aggarwal in lead roles, while Kamalinee was seen as Chitra.

Although the project was considered a major release at the time, the actor admitted that the way her role was shaped left her feeling “hurt.” Scroll down to read about what she said!

Kamalinee Mukherjee opens up on quitting Telugu cinema

The revelation was made during her appearance on the D-Talks podcast, where she reflected on her journey in Telugu films. While she described the experience of working on Govindudu Andarivadele as “amazing,” Kamalinee confessed that by the end, she felt out of place. “Not because of the crew. Because all my co-actors and people on the set were very amazing and supportive. I just wasn’t very comfortable about how my role in the film turned out. So, it wasn’t anything contentious. It wasn’t like a fight or something. I just stepped back from Telugu films after that for a while because I felt hurt. I felt hurt about the way it (her role) turned out,” she explained.

Despite her disappointment, the actor clarified that she holds no grudges. Instead, she acknowledged the unpredictability of filmmaking, where the final output may not always match expectations. “Sometimes you think that this is your scene. And this is the best thing. Then, when you go back and watch, the director realises it didn’t come out the way you did, or it doesn’t have the impact it’s supposed to. And we are not made aware of those things. But the way I felt was very personal to me, and that kind of hurt me. I thought I needed to step back from Telugu films and maybe try other languages,” she added.
