New Delhi. No one had thought that a simple dispute that started due to violation of traffic rules in Gandhinagar area of Jammu and Kashmir would suddenly become so big. A video that went viral on social media shook the entire administration and within no time this matter became one of the most talked about controversies of the state. After all, what really happened on the road that day? And whose mistake cost more heavily? The controversy is continuously deepening.
DSP suspended, but why no action against BDO?
The video allegedly showed Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunil Singh slapping an administrative officer, JKAS officer and Block Development Officer (BDO) Azhar Khan. The video went viral within minutes and everyone from the public to the authorities strongly condemned the incident. After this the administration took immediate action and suspended DSP Sunil Singh. But the matter did not end here. When another longer video of the incident surfaced, the other side of the story also started to emerge, the same side that sparked a new debate on social media.

Did the government vehicle traveling on the wrong side give rise to the entire controversy?
The long video allegedly showed that BDO Azhar Khan’s car was traveling on the wrong side of the road and collided with a van. Due to this collision there was a sudden traffic jam. Meanwhile, DSP Sunil Singh reached the spot and a heated argument started between the two officers. It is being said that the argument escalated so much that the situation reached a scuffle. After this the DSP allegedly slapped him, due to which the matter became more sensitive.
Why was the order issued to immediately suspend the DSP?
Jammu and Kashmir’s Home Department, in an order issued on Friday, said that “Pending the investigation, DSP Sunil Singh is suspended with immediate effect.” This action has been taken under Rule 31(1) JK Civil Services (CCA Rules 1956). Besides, DSP Sunil Singh has also been ordered to remain attached to Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters during the suspension period. Apart from this, the Director General of Police also transferred him immediately. In his place, DSP Kuljeet Singh was appointed as the new SDPO in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Is only DSP responsible or is BDO’s fault equally big?
After the long video surfaced, social media got divided into two parts. Some people are saying that it is not right under any circumstances for one officer to slap another but on the other hand many people are raising the question that when the BDO himself was driving on the wrong side, creating a jam and instigating the debate, then should the action be taken only on the DSP? This is the reason why now the demand for action against BDO Azhar Khan has intensified on social media.
Can further major action be taken in this matter?
A formal investigation into the incident is ongoing. Statements of both the officers will be taken, CCTV footage will be examined and traffic details will also be scrutinized. There is a possibility that after the investigation report comes another big decision.

DSP Sunil Singh has been suspended, but after the long video surfaced, the whole matter has become complicated. Was BDO’s mistake big in initiating the road accident?
