New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old tennis player was shot dead by her father in Gurugram’s Sushant Lok today (July 10, Thursday). The deceased, Radhika Yadav, was a state-level tennis player and lived in Sushant Lok-phase 2 of Haryana’s Gurugram city.
According to a report in NDTV, the father shot five bullets at Radhika, and three hit her. The police have detained the man, who was reportedly miffed with his daughter’s addiction to making reels on Instagram.
Radhika, who won several competitions at state level, was killed around noon inside her house in sector-57 Gurugram.
According to the police, the weapon to commit the crime has been seized and a case registered at the Sector 56 police station.
As per media reports, Radhika’s father used his licensed gun to commit the henious crime. Radhika was reportedly rushed to a private hospital in critical condition but succumbed to injuries and lost her life during treatement.
Sector 56 police station in-charge spoke to India Today and said: “We got information from the hospital that a 25-year-old woman had died. She suffered three bullet injuries. We met the woman’s uncle but he did not say anything. Then we went to the incident spot where we got to know that the woman’s father had fired at her”.
Who was Radhika Yadav?
Radhika, who turned 25 in March earlier this year, was a rising tennis star from Haryana. She actively participated in several national and international tournaments. According to All India Tennis Association (AITA) records, she reached a career-best ranking of 75 in Girls Under-18, 53 in Women’s doubles, and 35 in Women’s singles.
Radhika was also active on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) circuit, where she was ranked 113.
Radhika reportedly also ran a tennis academy to train young budding players.
