A new social media trend called “Who said that?” has gone viral for its brutally honest and hilarious self-reflection format. The trend sees users turning away from the camera to say something deeply personal or brutally honest — often a hidden truth about themselves. Then they quickly turn back to the camera, feigning shock and say, “Who said that?” as if it wasn’t them.
It’s a mix of comedy, self-awareness and emotional truth-telling that’s struck a chord with millions.
In one viral video, TikToker @drbrowne_ uses the trend to unpack her reasons for still being single. Facing away from the camera, she delivers a long, raw monologue about past trauma. She asks herself whether she’s truly happy being single or just too emotionally damaged to be vulnerable again. Then she turns back and says, “Who said that?”. She perfectly captured the denial and discomfort many feel when confronting their emotional baggage.
Another creator, @myahadele, used the trend to explain her hyperindependence. She blames it on being the eldest sibling who had to take on extra responsibilities growing up. In her caption, she jokes: “Me personally I just wouldn’t let her talk to ME like that idk. I mean she right but it’s the principle.”
The trend has become popular for combining humour with vulnerability. It allows users to laugh at their struggles while also acknowledging them, often prompting comments from others who relate.
