Wiaan Mulder took one of the most shocking calls in the history of cricket as he decided against breaking Brian Lara’s record of most runs in a Test innings.

Mulder was batting on 367 off just 334 balls when lunch was taken. Batting with a strike rate of 109.88, Mulder was enjoying his time in the middle. The fans were hoping for Mulder to quickly breach the 400-run mark after lunch. But few minutes before the start of the second session, SA declared their innings.

Wiaan Mulder is a South African all-rounder who made his first-class and T20 debuts in 2016. His List A debut came in 2017. Mulder made his ODI debut just 8 months after his List A debut and played his first 50-over game for SA in October 2017. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2019. Mulder played his debut T20I against Pakistan in April 2021.

He played for the SA U-19 cricket team before making it to the national team. Mulder finished the 2016 U-19 WC as the highest wicket-taker. He scalped 11 wickets in 5 matches.

Mulder breached the 1000-run mark in Test cricket during his historic knock. He now has 1153 runs and 35 wickets in 21* Tests. He has 276 runs and 22 wickets in 25 ODIs. Mulder, who has only played 11 T20Is, has 105 runs and 8 wickets in the shortest format.

Mulder landed his maiden IPL deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2025. The Orange Army signed him as Brydon Carse’s replacement. Mulder only played one match in the season.
