Who is the owner of Indigo?

IndiGo, one of the largest airlines in the country, is facing major crises these days. The company’s flights are continuously being canceled across the country. The company, which has more than 60 percent share in the domestic market, is currently in the grip of operational crisis, due to which the company’s reputation is not only getting damaged but it is also incurring losses. More than 200 of its flights were canceled on Tuesday and Wednesday. Let us understand in detail who operates Indigo. Also, why is there a problem with the airline right now?

IndiGo Airlines

IndiGo started in 2005 when Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal decided to create a new airline. Bhatia was known for his understanding of business and aviation services in India, while Gangwal had the experience of working internationally in large companies like US Airways and United Airlines. Both had the vision of building an airline in India that would fly on time, keep fares low and provide hassle-free services to passengers. Provide 24×7 service. At present, Rahul Bhatia is not only the co-founder of the company but also its promoter and managing director.

Started together, but there was a rift in the relationship!

Both of them started a company together but after some time their mutual relations started deteriorating. Relationships started turning sour. With time, differences between the two partners started increasing. It was said that Gangwal raised questions about Bhatia’s control over IndiGo through InterGlobe Enterprises, party transactions and transparency of the board.

In the year 2019, Gangwal submitted a complaint to SEBI, after which the fight between the two parties took a legal turn and the matter reached London Arbitration. In February 2022, Gangwal left the board and clearly said that he would sell his stake in the market in five years. After this he gradually started selling his stake.

What problems is the company facing?

If we look at the recent situation of the company, it is not good at all. According to Indigo, flight operations have been affected in the last few days due to various reasons, including minor technical issues, changed schedules due to winter, bad weather and increased congestion in the air traffic system.

Apart from this, the new flight duty time limitation rules implemented by DGCA from November 1 have also increased the problem. Following the order of Delhi High Court, limits have been set on landing of pilots between 12 midnight and 6 am and their weekly rest time has also been extended. Due to these changes, crew availability reduced, which had a direct impact on flight operations.
