The Prime Minister especially gave the example of Devaki Devi of Bihar and said that he has changed the fate of his village with the help of solar pumps. Devaki Devi, who hails from Ratanpura village in Muzaffarpur, is now lovingly called ‘Solar Didi’. PM Modi said that Devki Devi’s life was not easy. They got married at an early age, they had a small farm and the responsibility of four children. There was no clear picture of the future, but he never lost courage. She joined a self -help group, where she came to know about the solar pump. He started efforts to install solar pumps and succeeded in it.

The Prime Minister further said that Solar Didi’s solar pump changed the picture of the village. Where irrigation was possible in the first few acres, now water is reaching more than forty acres of land from their solar pump. Many other farmers of the village have also joined this effort. Their crops are getting green and their income has also increased.

Farmers have to apply through government schemes or self -help groups to install solar pumps, where they get subsidy and technical assistance.
