New Delhi: The central government has appointed Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, a 1990 batch IPS officer, as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
He takes the charge on Saturday, after the official announcement was made on Wednesday. Bhatti previously served as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Bihar.
Who is Rajwinder Bhatti?
Rajwinder Singh Bhatti is an IPS officer from the 1990 batch of the Bihar cadre. He has an extensive background in law enforcement and administration, with a career spanning over 34 years. Bhatti is a Chartered Accountant with an M.Phil degree and has held numerous important and sensitive positions both in Bihar and in central government.
In September 2021, Bhatti was appointed as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force’s (BSF) Eastern Command, he was to hold the position until September 2025 or “till further orders.” He was also posted as the Director General of Bihar Military Police in Patna.
Throughout his career, Bhatti has been known for his uprightness and commitment to law enforcement. He served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as the Joint Director of the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency (MDMA), which was responsible for investigating the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In 2017, he was also appointed as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Rajwinder Bhatti is credited with taking decisive action against many influential political leaders and high-profile criminals in Bihar. Notably, he was involved in cases against RJD MP Shahabuddin, Prabhunath Singh, and Dilip Kumar Singh, all of whom were wanted in various criminal cases. His efforts have been influential in improving the law and order situation in Bihar.
Assuming Charge at CISF Headquarters
Upon his arrival at the CISF Headquarters, Bhatti was welcomed by senior officers of the force, including Praveer Ranjan, ADG (APS), Kundan Krishnan, ADG (North), and PS Ranpise, ADG (HQ). A ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented to mark the occasion.
After assuming charge, Bhatti interacted with senior CISF officers and chaired a meeting to review the force’s functioning. He emphasized his commitment to enhancing professionalism and welfare measures within the CISF. Bhatti also outlined his vision to strengthen the CISF’s capabilities in safeguarding the nation’s critical infrastructure, including airports, nuclear installations, and other vital assets, while prioritizing the well-being of the personnel serving in the force.
