Popular Indian Haryanvi singer, songwriter, and composer Masoom Sharma has landed in trouble for using abusive language during a cultural event at DAV (PG) College in Dehradun.
Known for songs like Chambal Ke Dakku and Lofer, he was lashing out at a person who allegedly tried to kill him. After addressing the crowd, he allegedly at the supposed goon. The incident reportedly occurred after Sharma shared the stage with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and later spoke about a security scare. This has stirred up a major controversy as a complaint has been filed against the singer. A student representative lodged a case against him for “hurting public sentiments and disrupting decorum at the programme.”
Masoom Sharma Booked For Abusive Language
The Uttarakhand Police have filed a case against Sharma for using offensive language at the festival. The complaint was filed by Pranchal Nauni, a representative of the college’s Satyam Shivam student group. Police said Sharma has been booked under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to obscene acts, insulting language, hurting women’s dignity, and criminal intimidation. An investigation is underway.

Masoom Sharma Apologises
Sharma has apologised for his language. He said that he was stressed due to fear and lack of sleep because of the alleged threat.
MLA Umesh Kumar, who was also present on stage, claimed he tried to stop the singer, but was pushed away.
“For the past week, a gangster from Haryana had been following him and had even reached Dehradun, outside the hotel where he was staying. He was under stress throughout the night. However, using abusive language at a temple of education is condemnable. I cannot support him for that,” he was quoted as saying.
He said that the protests are justified but warned those trying to twist facts and inflame the situation.
