Who is Humayun Kabir, who collected crores of donations for Babri Masjid?

Humayun Kabir, suspended MLA from Mamata Banerjee’s TMC, laid the foundation stone of a Babri-like mosque in Beldanga on 6 December. Kabir said that the construction will start after the recitation of the Quran in February 2026. He also announced the formation of a new party for the Bengal elections.

Who is Humayun Kabir: Humayun Kabir, suspended MLA from Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress, laid the foundation of a Babri-like mosque on 6 December, on the 33rd anniversary of the Babri demolition. During this, Humayun Kabir along with the Maulvis cut the ribbon. Till now a lot of donations have been collected for this mosque, the video of which has been shared by Kabir himself.

Construction will start after recitation of Quran in February

According to reports, on December 6, 11 boxes of donations were collected for the mosque, for which a note counting machine had to be ordered. It is being told that only Rs 93 lakh has been received online for the mosque. On Sunday, Humayun Kabir announced that in February 2026, he will make 1 lakh people recite the Quran and after that the work of building Babri Masjid will start.

Humayun Kabir will contest elections on 135 seats

Humayun Kabir announced the formation of his new party on 22 December, the day after laying the foundation stone of ‘Babri Masjid’ in Beldanga. Kabir said that he will field his candidates on 135 out of 294 seats in the Bengal Assembly elections to be held in 2026. Humayun claimed that for this he will soon talk to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and form an alliance with him. However, no statement has come from Owaisi on this.

Who is Humayun Kabir?

Humayun Kabir was born on 3 April 1961 in a Bengali Muslim Shaikh family in Debra village of West Medinipur district. He obtained his PhD in Botany from Kalyani University in 1991. Kabir joined the IPS through the West Bengal State Police Service in 2003. His first posting was as DSP in North 24 Parganas. During the 2014 elections he was sent as Murshidabad Superintendent of Police. He was accused of being a supporter of the then Lok Sabha member Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary. In February 2021, Kabir joined Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress. He contested and won the elections from his native town Debra. On 10 May 2021, he was appointed Minister of State (Independent Charge). He is currently MLA from Bharatpur seat of Murshidabad.
