Patna: BJP has released its second list for Bihar Assembly elections 2025, which includes many surprising and popular names. Among these names, former IPS officer Anand Mishra, who has been made the candidate from Buxar seat, has attracted the most attention. Anand Mishra, who had a sharp and outspoken image in his administrative career, has now entered active politics. He is being considered an important face to strengthen the BJP’s image of ‘good governance and strict law and order’.
Administrative career and outspoken identity
Anand Mishra is a 2011 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre. His administrative career is mainly known for the tough and successful campaigns against Naxalism and drugs smuggling. In the year 2023, he took VRS (Voluntary Retirement) from his active government service and entered active politics. During his posting in many districts of Assam, he strictly enforced law and order, due to which he was counted as an influential officer even though he was not in the Bihar cadre.
From Jansuraj to BJP
Anand Mishra’s political entry has been full of ups and downs. After taking VRS, he immediately associated himself with Prashant Kishor’s (PK) Jan Suraj Party. He also participated in many political activities at the local level in Bihar along with Prashant Kishore. However, in August 2025, taking a major political decision, he left Jan Suraj and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Getting ticket from Buxar seat is being considered as a direct result of his decision.
After leaving Jansuraj, Anand Mishra had also revealed the reason behind this in a podcast. He had said,
I did wrong by going to such a place. A man wants to build his empire on the basis of money. Wants to sell the name of Bihar. I respect Prashant ji, but Uday Singh has created a stink in the party. It was because of Uday Singh that I left the party.
What is the net worth of former IPS Anand Mishra?
According to ADR and affidavits, Anand Mishra’s net worth is around ₹2.5 crore. This includes his movable assets of approximately ₹1.7 crore and immovable assets of ₹77 lakh. He also has assets like bank deposits, mutual funds, vehicles and gold jewellery. The special thing is that there is no debt registered against him. Accordingly, he is counted among the prosperous middle class leaders of Bihar.
Former IPS officer Anand Mishra’s political career has just started, but due to his administrative experience and clear working style, he is being considered strategically important for BJP.
