On November 19, Divya Bharathi had shared a screenshot on social media after Telugu film Got director Naresh Kuppili called her “Chilka”. Following this incident, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) is demanding a safe workplace for women in the film industry and a safe mechanism to resolve complaints. Not only this, the association supported Divya Bharti by sharing long posts on its Twitter and demanded action against the director.

All India Cine Workers Association shared a post on Twitter and told how Divya Bharti had recently accused director Naresh Kuppili of making wrong comments towards her. She wrote, “In the Indian film industry, whether it is an actress, a model or any woman working on a film set, such incidents should never be tolerated. Every woman deserves respect and dignity.” He further wrote- “Unfortunately, many such incidents happen but are often suppressed. AICWA appreciates Divya Bharti’s courage in raising her voice against this insult and stands by her every step.”

Need for Women Redressal Committee

All India Cine Workers Association said that many people in the film industry silently tolerate wrong things and things due to the fear of being blacklisted by influential groups. She demanded a Women’s Redressal Committee headed by a retired woman judge. He said, “The allegation made by Divya Bharti once again points to the urgent need for a transparent and credible mechanism where women can demand justice without any fear. Women are the dignity of every household and no one has the right to insult them.” She also requested the National Commission for Women to take cognizance of Divya Bharti’s case and initiate action against Naresh.

What happened to Divya Bharti?

On November 17, Divya Bharti had revealed on social media how director Naresh Kuppili had made inappropriate comments about her on the sets and on social media. She also reprimanded her co-star Sudigali Sudheer for remaining silent during all this. He had written – “Calling women ‘Chilaka’ or any other abusive word is not a joke but it shows hatred towards women. This is not a one-time incident. The director adopted the same method on the set too, disrespecting women again and again. He wrote at the end of the post – Respect cannot be compromised.
