Both the accused requested to be released citing themselves as Indians, now a debate has started on social media on this issue.

The video of the incident has gone viral on Reddit’s r/sundaysarthak subreddit. In this the passenger is stopped at customs check. Tobacco products are found in his goods. He appeals to the officer, “I am from India, let me go.” People are surprised to see this clip. Many users said in the comments that such people spoil the image of the country.

Custom rules abroad are strict. Items like cigarettes and tobacco cannot be taken to foreign airports. Indian travelers are often kept under watch because people here often carry intoxicants with them. Due to this, cases of smuggling have increased. Recently e-cigarettes were seized at Kochi Airport. Whereas foreign cigarettes worth Rs 27 lakh were seized in Bhubaneswar. A case of cigarette smuggling was filed against two Indians in America. Such cases lead to allegations of defaming India.
