Tehran: Amid escalation of the conflict in West Asia, Israel on Tuesday claimed to have killed Ali Larijani, Iran’s security chief, in an airstrike. Iran, on the other hand, has not yet confirmed the report.
Recently, Larijani had warned the US President Donald Trump, saying that the latter would pay the price for the attack on Iran and starting the conflict in the Middle East. As per Israeli officials and media reports, Larijani, might have been killed the previous night.
On Monday, there were messages from his X handle, pointing out on the lack of support for Muslim countries for Iran in the ongoing war. He wrote, ““You know that, except in rare cases and only within the bounds of political stances, no Islamic country stood with the Iranian people. Nevertheless, the Iranian people, with their strong will, were able to suppress the aggressor until today it is unable to find a way out of this strategic predicament.”
“Is not the position of some Islamic governments contradictory to the saying of the Prophet: “Whoever hears a man calling out, ‘O Muslims!’ and does not respond is not a Muslim? What kind of Islam is this?” he further added.
Who is Ali Larijani?
Larijani has family links to the clerical regime since his marriage into the family of a top religious leader, as per the Arab Gulf States Institute based in Washington. He was considered as a key power broker in Iran, at least at a time when Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was alive.
It is believed that he had enough power to delay the formal declaration Mojtaba Khamenei as the next Supreme Leader of Iran. He emerged from hiding last week Iran’s Jerusalem (Quds) Day marches in Tehran. He also spoke at the event alongside President Masoud Pazakhian and other senior officials of the country.
