25-year-old Maithili Thakur became the youngest MLA in Bihar elections 2025, while 80+ year-old Harinarayan Singh won for the 10th time. This mandate reflects a balance of youthful enthusiasm and experience.
This time an interesting contradiction has emerged in the results of Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. On one hand, a 25 year old young voice has reached the Assembly, while on the other hand, an experienced leader of over 80 years has further strengthened his record. This election has become an example of meeting of generations, which has given a new direction to the politics of Bihar.
Youngest MLA
BJP candidate Maithili Thakur from Alinagar seat created history as the youngest MLA. At the age of 25, he registered a landslide victory, defeating his nearest rival Vinod Mishra of RJD by 11,730 votes. Maithili got a total of 84,915 votes, while Vinod Mishra got 73,185 votes in the main contest. Maithili, who had already established herself as a famous folk singer and classical artist, contested elections for the first time and reached the assembly in the first attempt. Amit Shah had campaigned for him, which further strengthened the atmosphere in Alinagar. This clearly shows that the combination of young leadership, clean image and popularity impressed the people.
oldest MLA
On the other hand, Harnaut Assembly seat of Nalanda district has once again sent the most experienced face of Bihar to the Legislative Assembly. JDU’s Harinarayan Singh won by a huge margin and set a record of his tenth consecutive victory. His age is said to be between 78 to 84 years, but age did not weaken his political grip and energy at all. He defeated Congress’s Arun Kumar by a huge margin of 48,335 votes. He got a total of 1,06,954 votes, while Arun Kumar stopped at 58,619 votes. Harinarayan Singh, who has been winning elections continuously since 1977, has become one of the longest winning leaders in the history of Bihar.
It is clear from both these victories that this time the people of Bihar have given a balanced mandate by sending two completely different generations to the Legislative Assembly. On one hand there is the enthusiasm and freshness of the new generation, on the other hand there is decades of experience and stable leadership. This combination shows that Bihar now wants to move forward in politics by taking all three – diversity, capability and trust.
