Bone test: Our bones shape the body, protect the organs and support them. But many times bones gradually start to weaken and we do not even know. Until problems like pain, stiffness or fracture are not revealed, people keep ignoring it. Weakness of bones is not only an age -related problem, but it also depends on your diet, lifestyle and hormonal changes.
Our Bones There are body structure, which not only keeps us standing, but also helps in the safety of organs and also the movement of the body. But bones can weaken due to aging, nutritional deficiency or hormonal changes, causing fractures, osteoporosis, or joint problems. In such a situation, it is very important to conduct bones from time to time, so that any disease can be identified in time. Let’s know which tests are necessary for bone health Dr. Sankalp Jaiswal has told about this in the Arthredic Department at Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida.
1 BMD Test
This is the most important and common test to measure the strength of bones. Dexa (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) is a special X-Ray technique to detect how much calcium and mineral is present in your bones. This test is done for the initial identity of osteoporosis (weakening of bones). This is mainly performed on hips, spine and wrist bones. After the age of 50, especially women must get this test done.
2 x-ray (X-ray)
X-rays are done to see bones. This is usually done when a bone pain, swelling or injury is suspected. This shows diseases like fracture, loss of joints or arthritis.
3 Serum Calcium Test
It is known from this blood test how the level of calcium is in your blood. This test is especially done when you complain of bone pain, muscle stretch or frequent fracture.
4 Vitamin D Test (25-Hydroxy Vitamin D Test)
Vitamin D helps bones to absorb calcium. If there is deficiency of vitamin D in the body, then bones become weak and brittle. This blood test is done. Especially among those who stay away from sunlight or are in old age.
5 phosphate and alkaline phosphate test (ALP Test)
This test is also from blood and helps to know whether there is any weakness in bones. Alkaline phosphatese is an enzyme associated with bones growth and broken. Its if it can point to bone diseases.
6 MRI (MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
MRI is used when the bones as well as the problem of muscles, ligaments or bones have to be examined. It gives more detailed images and is especially useful in joint pain or chronic fracture cases.
When should this test be done?
Repeated bone or fracture
For regular checking of bones after the age of 50
If the doctor suspects osteoporosis or arthritis
Constant pain in the back or joints, stiffness or difficulty in walking
Symptoms of calcium or vitamin D deficiency
