The answer is clear-tomorrow, we proudly celebrate the 79th anniversary of India’s freedom, honouring 79 years since 1947 with unwavering spirit. Normally, most of the people simply subtract 1947 (the year India achieved its freedom from British) from 2025 and arrive at 78. The mistake happens because people often forget to count the first Independence Day celebration. The correct way is to consider August 15, 1947 – the day India became independent – as the first Independence Day. Accordingly, 2025 marks the 79th celebration of India’s freedom.
Independence Day Celebration – This Year’s Theme
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lead the Independence Day celebrations from Delhi’s iconic Red Fort, unfurling the National Flag and delivering a stirring address from its historic ramparts. With India advancing toward the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, this year’s theme, “Naya Bharat,” reflects a prosperous, secure, and bold nation. The festivities will celebrate India’s remarkable rise and ignite renewed momentum for progress.
The official Independence Day ceremony kicks off with a grand Guard of Honour presented by the Armed Forces and Delhi Police to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Next, the Prime Minister unfurls the tricolour, accompanied by the stirring National Anthem and a resounding 21-gun salute. Indian Air Force helicopters will shower vibrant flower petals over the iconic Red Fort, setting the stage for Prime Minister Modi’s inspiring Independence Day address.
Operation Sindoor
This year’s Independence Day celebrations will honour the triumph of Operation Sindoor. A striking view cutter at Gyanpath will proudly display the Operation Sindoor logo, with vibrant floral decorations reflecting the operation’s theme. Invitation cards will also feature the Operation Sindoor logo, alongside a watermark of the majestic Chenab Bridge, symbolising the rise of a bold and prosperous Naya Bharat.
