Which carmaker sold the most EVs in FY2026? Check out full details

New Delhi: India’s electric car market grew strongly in FY2026. Total passenger EV sales reached 1,99,923 units, which is an 83.63 percent increase compared to FY2025. This shows that more buyers are now considering electric cars across different price segments.

The growth was not limited to one brand. Almost every major carmaker in the EV space saw better numbers this year. New models kept coming in, and buyers now have more choices than before, which clearly helped push overall sales.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors stayed at the top of the EV market in FY2026. The company sold 78,811 units, which is about 36 percent higher than last year. Models such as the Nexon EV, Punch EV and Harrier EV continued to attract buyers.

EVs made up around 12 percent of Tata’s total passenger vehicle sales, which stood at about 6.42 lakh units. The company is also planning to expand its EV range further with the Sierra EV and Safari EV in 2026.

JSW MG Motor India

MG Windsor EV

JSW MG Motor India held the second position with total sales of 53,089 units. This is a 74 per cent increase compared to FY2025. The Windsor EV was one of the main reasons behind this growth.

At the same time, models like the Cyberster and M9 helped the brand build a more premium image. MG is also preparing to add another SUV, the iM6, to its EV lineup.

Mahindra and Mahindra

Mahindra XEV 9S

Mahindra XEV 9S

Mahindra saw one of the biggest jumps in EV sales this year. The company sold 42,721 units in FY2026, which is more than five times its FY2025 numbers.

This growth came mainly after the launch of new models like the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S. However, EVs still made up only 6.4 per cent of its total passenger vehicle sales of 6.6 lakh units. One reason is that Mahindra does not yet have an affordable EV option.

Hyundai

Creta Electric

Creta Electric

Hyundai more than doubled its EV sales in FY2026, reaching 5,885 units. The Creta Electric, launched in early 2025, played a key role in this increase.

The company does not have any major EV launches planned for 2026. However, it is expected to bring a new locally-made compact EV in 2027, along with an update for the Creta Electric.

BYD

BYD SEALION 7

BYD SEALION 7

BYD reported sales of 5,361 units in FY2026, which is a 54 percent rise compared to last year. This is notable because the brand mainly operates in a higher price range between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 55 lakh.

The Sealion 7 SUV, launched in February 2025, contributed strongly to these numbers and continues to see steady demand.

Kia

Kia EV2

Kia EV2

Kia recorded the fastest growth among all brands this year. Its EV sales jumped nearly nine times to 3,738 units in FY2026. This sharp rise was mainly due to the launch of the Carens Clavis EV and the updated EV6. Kia has also moved up in the rankings and is expected to introduce the Syros EV in 2026.

Vinfast

VinFast

VinFast

Vinfast entered the Indian market in September 2025 and still managed to sell 2,390 units in a short time.

The company currently offers the VF6 and VF7 models. It is also planning to expand its lineup with a new model, likely called the VF MPV 7, in the near future.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki eVitara

Maruti Suzuki eVitara

Maruti Suzuki entered the EV market with the launch of the e Vitara in February 2026. In just over a month, the company sold 1,416 units of this model.

This placed Maruti eighth on the list. The company is also working on another electric vehicle, an MPV with the codename YMC, which is expected to launch soon.

Citroen

Citroen eC3

Citroen eC3

Citroen was the only brand to see a drop in EV sales in FY2026. The company sold 576 units of the eC3, which is more than 71 percent lower than last year.

The decline may be due to fewer updates and features. At the same time, newer rivals in the same segment are offering better equipment, which could be affecting Citroen’s sales.
