Constipation and acidity are nowadays common problems, which are directly related to our food and lifestyle. Constipation occurs when the stool in the intestines dries up and is not easily out. Because of this, the stomach feels heavy, flatulence and uncomfortable in the stomach. At the same time, acidity becomes more stomach acid or starts coming upwards, which causes problems like burning, sour belching and chest irritation. Junk food, spicy food, late sleeping, drinking less water and stress increase these problems. According to Ayurveda, unbalanced bile and vata doshas are the main reasons for this. Elderly, pregnant women, fast-food people and people sitting and working are more at risk.

Due to prolonged constipation, toxins start accumulating in the body, which can cause fatigue, headache, mouth smell and skin problems. Constant pressure on the rectum increases the risk of hemorrhoids and anal fisher. When the acidity is repeated, the stomach and throat layer affects, causing gastritis, ulcers, and in the long run of esophagus damage ie inflammation and damage in the inner layer of the food tube. Many people also have trouble breathing, chest pain and sleep disturbance in many people. It is believed in Ayurveda that ignoring these problems weakens the digestive fire of the body, which also reduces immunity. Therefore, it is necessary to solve them properly in time, otherwise it can become the root of other serious diseases.

Should you drink more water in constipation and acidity?

Dr. RP Parashar of Ayurveda in Delhi says that drinking water is necessary for digestion and cleaning of the body, but it should be drunk in the right way and quantity. Lack of water in constipation makes stool hard, so it is necessary to drink enough water. Drinking lukewarm water on an empty stomach in the morning makes the intestines active and it is easy. Cold water can reduce stomach irritation in case of acidity, but drinking too much water immediately after meals dilutes the digestive juice, which can increase the problem of acid reflux. In Ayurveda, it is advisable to drink water in small sips throughout the day, so that the digestive process is not interrupted. 33.5 liters of water in summer season and 22.5 liters of water in winter is generally considered sufficient. Overall, more water is beneficial in constipation and acidity, but instead of drinking more simultaneously, it should be taken in balanced quantity throughout the day.
