This temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples of Sindh province. It is said to be about 2000 years old.

According to the website of Shadani Darbar Temple, at the age of only 20, Sanda Shadaram had traveled from Ayodhya, Haridwar, Yamunotri, Gangotri and Amarnath to Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal. In the year 1768, during the reign of Raja Nand, he reached Mathelo, the then capital of Sindh, and along with constructing the Shiva temple, lit the sacred Dhuni Sahib. After some time, he left this temple and settled near Hayat Pitafi and laid the foundation of Shadani Darbar there.
