Dhaka: In the recently concluded general elections in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party led by Tarique Rahman won by a landslide margin in the neighbouring country. The party won 212 out of 299. The entire focus has now shifted to when the new government will take oath.
Preparations on for Govt formation
Notably, the interim Government led by Muhammad Yunus has started making all preparations for the swearing-in and is also eager to hand over responsibilities at the earliest. According to a report published in Daily Star, the new government is likely to be formed in a day or two.
Earlier, Yunus asked the country’s cabinet division as well as the law minister to start the process of power transfer, the report added further. When the newspaper asked for specific information on the date of the oath ceremony, Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid said that preparations are almost complete for the new government’s oath ceremony, either on Monday or Tuesday.
Pointing out that the announcement on the same is likely to be declared soon, another report published in Prothom Alo said that new MPs are likely t take oath on Monday or Tuesday. The very same day, the new government is likely to take oath, it added further.
BNP may invite PM Modi for swearing-in
Meanwhile, some reports have also claimed that the BNP might invite PM Modi for the oath ceremony. Earlier, taking to X, he wrote, “Delighted to speak with Mr Tarique Rahman. I congratulated him on the remarkable victory in the Bangladesh elections. “He further noted, “I conveyed my best wishes and support in his endeavour to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh.”
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to you for the overwhelming majority secured by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party under your leadership in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election,” Yunus said as per Daily Star.
