Luthra Brothers Deportation News: Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, who were absconding after the horrific fire in Goa’s famous Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, have now been caught in Thailand. Both were detained in Phuket and have now been shifted to Bangkok. With the joint action of Thai Police, Indian Embassy and Indian agencies, preparations are being made to bring them back to India as soon as possible. Goa Police says that ‘the process of deportation is going on and we are in constant touch with the central agencies.’ After the death of 25 people in this accident, both the brothers have been facing serious charges like murder and causing death by negligence.
What happened in Goa Nightclub?
On the night of 6-7 December, a fire broke out in the famous club of Goa. More than 25 people lost their lives in this accident. Investigation has revealed that electric pyro guns were fired during the belly dance show, due to which the combustible decorations and thatched roof inside the club further fueled the fire. Very low exit gates and piles of liquor bottles allowed the fire to spread to the entire 300 square meter club within minutes. Initial suspicion was on the gas cylinder, but now it is clear that negligence in security at various levels became the real reason for this accident.
Why were Luthra Brothers arrested in Thailand?
The Luthra Brothers fled to Phuket soon after the fire. After this MEA suspended the passports of both. As soon as the passports were cancelled, both of them became illegal foreigners in Thailand. Being without valid documentation is a crime under Thai law. For this reason the police there took both of them into custody. Now India is bringing them back through deportation, which is a faster method than extradition.
When will Luthra Brothers be brought to India?
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the team of CBI and Goa Police will bring the two brothers to India as soon as possible. The local police also issued a statement saying that the deportation process is going on fast and they hope that both will be in their custody by next week.
Luthra brothers’ bail rejected for trying to avoid arrest
Luthra Brothers had tried to seek four weeks’ transit anticipatory bail in Delhi’s Rohini Court. He argued that he could face unexpected losses by returning to India and also claimed that he could be lynched in Goa. But the court rejected his argument and said that the allegations are very serious. The court also told that both the brothers hid the fact that they had booked tickets to Thailand immediately after the fire.
