Baba Mahakal: The world famous Jyotirling Baba Mahakal temple located in Ujjain is known throughout the country for its unique traditions. Here every festival is celebrated early in the morning and with special enthusiasm. Due to fluctuations in dates this year, Roop Chaudas will be celebrated in the morning on Monday, October 20. The great festival of Diwali will be celebrated on the evening of 20th October. On this special occasion, the entire routine of Baba Mahakal will change, which will continue for about four months. With Roop Chaudas, the tradition of bathing with hot water to protect Mahakal from cold will begin, which will continue till Mahashivratri.

Special adornment of Baba Mahakal is done on Roop Chaudas. Only women from priest families participate in it. This is the only occasion of the year when women adorn the form of Baba Mahakal.

The sanctum sanctorum and the entire temple complex will be decorated with flowers from India and abroad. The courtyard of Baba Mahakal is decorated with flowers like anthuriums, lilies, cornichons, jasmine and daisies brought from Thailand, Bangkok and Malaysia as well as Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai in India.
