Sanjay Mishra has talked many times about his father’s death and his struggle. He told in many interviews how he had escaped death, and when he recovered and returned home from the hospital, his father passed away a few days later.

Sanjay Mishra said, ‘Yaar ho takes care of everything. The wife not only takes care of both the children but also takes care of the entire house. When I was about to get married, Saurabh Shukla had said, listen Mishra, live in your house as a tenant. So I live as a tenant. I enjoy it. Her name is Kiran. Are from the mountains. It is an arranged marriage. Took a few days to adjust because she is from DDhat. I had never even heard the name. The wedding took place there. A girl from there suddenly reached among the Mumbai actors and was surprised that they were doing something different. When I went to the cremation ground and rubbed the ashes of the pyre and my father-in-law reached home.
Sanjay Mishra then narrated the incident when he became so distressed by his father’s memories that he applied ashes on his body after reaching the cremation ground. When his father-in-law saw his condition, he was shocked. Sanjay said, ‘My father-in-law came after the marriage. I was with my driver and I was drinking Tanaton, Tanaton. I told the driver to take me to Nigam Bodh Ghat, where Papaji’s last rites were performed. When father-in-law arrived, he found that son-in-law was not visible. And my son-in-law was at Nigam Bodh Ghat…some bier was burning, it had burnt, meaning there was a little warmth. Wrapped his ashes and started crying, why did you go, Papa?
When he reached home, father-in-law lost his senses, there were ashes of pyre all over his body.
Sanjay Mishra again told that the same people whose coffin was burnt had started taking selfies with him and that too in the crematorium. Sanjay told, ‘Even in the ashes, he was getting a selfie clicked, a selfie sir. I just lit it. And when he came home, he was wearing white pants and shirt. All ashes on him, ashes in his hair. You are thinking of cremation ashes…Mummy didn’t know. The driver bathed me there itself. When my father-in-law opened the door, he saw his daughter’s future. Asked where are they coming from? So the answer was- Hey, don’t ask about them. Papa is coming back wrapped in the ashes of the place where he was burnt.

Sanjay Mishra told that he cried a lot remembering his father at the ghat. Sanjay Mishra’s father’s name was Shambhu Nath Mishra. He was a government journalist in the Press Information Bureau. After the death of his father, Sanjay Mishra had distanced himself from films. He left everything and reached Rishikesh and started working at a dhaba there. Sanjay Mishra had told in an interview that after his father’s death, he had read his diary one day, which revealed that he had become a cause of embarrassment for his father. And when Sanjay Mishra came to know about that incident, he was deeply hurt. He could never apologize to his father.

Talking about Sanjay Mishra’s marriage, he married Kiran Mishra in the year 2009. They have two daughters, named Pal and Lamha. Sanjay Mishra’s second marriage was to Kiran. Before him, the actor had married actress Roshni Achreja in the 90s. Some reports claim that Roshni Achreja had an affair with actor Raghubir Yadav, due to which her marriage with Sanjay Mishra broke. Sanjay divorced her and then settled down with Kiran for the second time.
