When is Dhanteras in 2025?
According to the Panchang, the Trayodashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month will start from 12:19 pm on Saturday, October 18, and will continue till 01:51 pm on Sunday, October 19. Since Dhanteras is worshiped in the evening during Pradosh Kaal and this situation is being created on 18th October, Saturday, hence the festival of Dhanteras will be celebrated on this day.

Why celebrate Dhanteras?
Why celebrate Dhanteras? There are many stories associated with it. According to the most popular story, once the gods along with the demons churned the ocean, from which various gems like Airavata elephant, Kalpavriksha, Kaustubha gem, Apsaras and Goddess Lakshmi etc. emerged. At last Lord Dhanvantari appeared with a pot full of nectar. To get this Amrit Kalash, there was a continuous war between the demons and the gods for 12 years, but no decision was reached. Later, Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Mohini and tricked the gods into drinking the nectar. By drinking the nectar the gods became powerful and immortal due to which the demons were defeated. The day when Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the sea with the nectar pot, it was Trayodashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, since then the tradition of celebrating the festival of Dhanteras has been going on on this date. Therefore, Lord Dhanvantari is especially worshiped on this day.
