Bhai Dooj 2025 Auspicious time: The festival of Bhaiya Dooj is celebrated two days after Diwali. This year Bhaiya Dooj is on 23rd October. According to Drik Panchang, on the day of Bhai Dooj, sisters apply Tilak to their brothers and pray for their long life and happiness and prosperity. On this day, sisters wake up in the morning, take bath and fast. After this she invites her brother and decorates the puja thali. She applies Tilak to her brother, ties Kalava and performs Aarti. After this the sister feeds sweets to her brother. After this the brother gives a gift to his sister.
According to the Panchang, one of the reasons why Bhai Dooj is called Yam Dwitiya is that bathing in Yamuna on this day has special significance in the memory of the meeting of Yamraj and Yamuna. According to mythological beliefs, bathing in Yamuna on this day destroys all sins and increases lifespan and wealth. By taking a pilgrimage bath on this day, the Yamdoots do not come to take the soul at the end of time.

Story of Yamraj and Yamuna
The story of Bhai Dooj is related to Yamraj and his sister Yamuna, who were the children of Sun God and Shadow. One day, on Shukla Dwitiya of Kartik month, Yamraj suddenly reached his sister Yamuna’s house. Yamuna honored him and provided him food. Happy Yamraj asked Yamuna to ask for a boon. Yamuna asked for a boon that he should come to her house every year on this day and the sister who applies tilak to her brother and serves food should not have any fear of Yama. Regarding the groom of his sister Yamuna, Yamraj said, ‘Amen’. He gave a boon to Yamuna. After this the festival of Bhai Dooj started being celebrated.

- After bathing in the morning, clean the house and keep a chowki at the place of worship.
- Place the urn and lamp on the stool. After this decorate with flowers.
- Sister applies tilak to her brother, offers Akshat, Roli, Durva and sweets.
