WhatsApp working on smoother Garmin watch integration

WhatsApp may soon feel a lot closer for Garmin smartwatch users. After years of relying on unofficial third party apps, signs now point to proper support finally coming to Garmin devices. The update could remove a long standing gap for users who track runs, rides, and swims on Garmin but still pull out their phone for replies.

The information comes from WaBetaInfo, which has a solid record of spotting WhatsApp features before launch. If the update rolls out as planned, Garmin watches could soon show up directly inside WhatsApp’s linked devices section, making the experience feel more official and far less messy.

WhatsApp support for Garmin is finally in the works

Until now, WhatsApp has never had an official app for Garmin smartwatches. Users depended on third party apps that mirrored chats and allowed replies. These apps worked, but security and reliability were always a question mark.

WaBetaInfo says WhatsApp is now working on improved support for Garmin devices. Once users add their watch through the Garmin Connect app, the Garmin watch should appear directly in WhatsApp’s Linked Devices screen. That detail matters, as it signals first party level integration rather than hacks or workarounds.

The update has no confirmed release date yet, but development is active.

What Garmin users can already do today

Garmin watches already handle notifications well. Models like the Forerunner 255 Music can receive WhatsApp messages and other texts when connected to a phone over Bluetooth. Users can also reply using predefined responses.

Using a Garmin during runs, quick replies are fine for a thumbs up or an okay. Anything longer still needs the phone.

An official WhatsApp app could change that flow.
