Dev Uthani Ekadashi 2025: Devuthani Ekadashi falls in the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. This Ekadashi is considered the most important because on this Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of the world, wakes up from four months of Yoga Nidra. Chaturmas (fourth month) ends with the awakening of the Lord. After this, the auspicious functions that were halted after Yoga Nidra of the Lord begin, such as marriage, Mundan Sanskar and Griha Pravesh.

According to the Panchang, the Ekadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is starting on 1st November i.e. tomorrow at 9:11 am. This date will end on November 2 at 7:31 am. Therefore, according to sunrise, the fast of Devuthani Ekadashi will be observed on 1st November.
What to eat during Devuthani Ekadashi fast? (What is the meaning of Dev Uthani Ekadashi?)
All types of fruits and dry fruits should be consumed on Devuthani Ekadashi. Potato, sweet potato, taro and sago should be consumed. Puris, parathas or pakodas made from water chestnut flour, buckwheat flour and Rajgira flour should be eaten. Milk, curd, buttermilk, cheese and ghee should be consumed. Only rock salt and satvik spices like black pepper, green chilli, ginger and cumin powder should be used.

What should not be eaten during Devuthani Ekadashi fast?
Wheat, barley, millet, maize and all types of pulses should not be consumed on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi. Garlic, onion, meat, fish and alcohol should not be consumed. Common salt should not be used. Vegetables like cabbage, carrot, spinach, brinjal and turnip should not be consumed.
Devuthani Ekadashi fasting rules
On the day of Devuthani Ekadashi, after bathing, one should meditate on Lord Vishnu and take a pledge to fast. Celibacy should be followed in mind, words and deeds. Basil should not be plucked. He should not be criticized. One should not lie to him. One should not argue with anyone during this fast. One should not sleep during this fast. The fast should be broken the next day on Dwadashi Tithi at an auspicious time. Rice and other Tamasic items should not be included in the Prasad.
