What is West Nile Virus?
Epidemic expert Dr. Jugal Kishore It is said that the Kivest Nile Virus is a mosquito -borne infection, caused by a virus called Flaviivirus. This virus is mainly spread to humans by biting mosquitoes infected. Most of all it is spread by a mosquito of the Culex species, which usually cut at night. This virus is found in birds and when mosquitoes suck the blood of infected birds, the virus reaches their body. Then when the same mosquito bites humans, this virus enters the human body. This disease usually spreads more monsoon and immediately after that, as the number of mosquitoes increases rapidly at this time. Its cases are very rarely seen in India, but this virus can cause serious diseases, so it is necessary to be cautious with it.
People infected with West Nile virus often do not see any symptoms, but some people may see mild symptoms. This includes fever, headache, body pain, fatigue, vomiting, loose motion, muscle stiffness and rashes on the body. These symptoms may appear 3 to 14 days after the bite of infected mosquito. The elderly, young children, already sick people and weak immunity are more at risk. Also, people who spend more time in mosquito -filled areas are also more at risk. Identification and treatment of timely symptoms is necessary.
How dangerous is West Nile virus for health,
Although in most cases of West Nile virus, the infection is lighter and is cured without any special treatment, but in some cases it can prove to be fatal. This virus can cause neurological problems such as the brain, spinal cord and inflammation in its membrane, causing severe fever, confusion, turbulence, unconsciousness, fainting, or coma.
In some patients, problems like muscle weakness, trouble walking and prolonged fatigue may remain after infection. So far no special vaccine or antiviral drug is available for the West Nile virus. Treatment is done only on the basis of symptoms, such as reducing fever, keeping the body hydrated and resting. Therefore, even though this virus is spread through common mosquitoes, if the immunity of the body is weak, it can take the form of serious illness. Being cautious and protecting against mosquitoes is the best solution.
