What is Vikram 3201, due to which India’s cheering is going to happen in the whole world?

Country’s first made in India chip- Vikram 3201

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the ‘Seemicon India 2025’ conference in Delhi. This three -day conference will be focused on promoting a strong, strong and durable semiconductor industry in India. On this special occasion, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav presented the country’s first 32-bit microprocessor chip Vikram 3201 to Prime Minister Modi. This chip has been developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and will play an important role for India’s rockets and satellites.

Prime Minister Modi said at the inauguration ceremony, the last century oil was named, but now it will be of the century chips. While oil is called black gold, chips are called digital diamonds. He further said that soon the smallest chip made in India will start a big change in the world.

Through the Seemicon India 2025 conference, India will try to strengthen its semiconductor technology globally, which will increase the digitization and economic growth of the country even faster. Let us understand what this Vikram 3201 is and how it is going to cheer in the whole world of India.

What is Vikram 3201?

This processor named Vikram 3201 is made in ISRO i.e. ISRO’s lab. It has been specially designed for space missions. When the rocket fly, hundreds of decisions have to be taken every second. Such as changing direction, reducing speed, or reaching a particular class (orbit). All these works will now be done with this chip made by India.

A great feature of this chip is that it can work even in a very difficult situation. Whether it is heat across the sky or a cold temperature like snow, or radiation, this chip also does its work even after bear everything.

The biggest feature of this processor is its 32-bit technology and floating point support, so that it can also be done easily. It contains 152 types of commands, and there are 32 registers, which work together. This processor can easily handle memory up to 4096 million words. For data, it supports 16-bit and 32-bit fixed and unsculhed points as well as 64-bit floating points (IEEE54 standard).

Vikram chip

The Vikram chip created by ISRO was unveiled on Tuesday.

Vikram 3201 is not only technically strong, but it consumes very little electricity. It runs on a single supply of 3.3 volts, works on a 100 MHz clock speed, and spends less than 500 mls. Also, its standby current is less than 10 ml. This means that this processor is also very good in saving energy. Not only this, it can also work in a very hot and cold environment, where the temperature is from -55 ° C to 125 ° C.

Its package is 181-pin and has been kept completely sealed, so that it can be safe from the dangers of external environment. Additionally, it also includes 256 software interpts, four independent 32-bit timers and two 1553B bus interfaces, making it versatile and reliable. Also, it has inbuilt testing and scan features, so that it can be tested and tested at all times.

This processor is built on 180Nm CMOS technology, which may be old according to today’s consumer electronics, but its credibility is the greatest strength in the strict environment of space. This is the reason why ISRO has chosen this technique, so that there is no technical problem during the mission. Overall, Vikram 3201 is the special microprocessor of India that will play an important role in making the country’s space journey safe, reliable and skilled.

Its test has already been done in space

You will be proud to know that the Vikram 3201 processor has already been successfully tested in a space mission. In March 2025, it was sent to a mission named PSLV-C60, where it served as Mission Management Computer. This test was completely successful and proved that India’s chip can work strongly in space.

Semiconductor chip

Now the chip will not have to be called from outside

Till now, India had to get the processor chips used in space missions from abroad. It used to take time and a lot of expenses were also incurred. Many times there were problems due to security or restrictions. But now that this chip has become in India, the country has become self -sufficient. The government says that since India’s semiconductor mission started in 2021, an investment of about Rs 1.56 lakh crore has come in this sector since then. 10 big projects have also been approved.

India will become a leader in chip design

India is now preparing to play a big role in the field of chip designing. Prime Minister Modi has announced that the government will soon bring the design-linked incentive (DLI) scheme, under which the companies designed in the country will be given direct assistance. He said that the world is trusting India today and now the time has come that we should not depend only on others, but should be a leader in this technique. It is worth noting that India’s semiconductor mission started in 2021, and so far it has invested about ₹ 1.56 lakh crore. 10 big projects have also been approved.
