Let’s know what is BRICS and how much does India benefit from it? How important is this?
In fact, the five -emerging major economies of the world have formed a government informal organization, named BRICS. It is also named after these five countries Brazil, Russia, India (India), China and South Africa (BRICS). Firstly, this informal group was named by analyst Jim Onel in 2001 by mixing the first letters of Brazil, Russia, India (India) and China. After this, the name BRIC was revealed and this organization was formally launched in 2006, whose summit was held on 16 June 2009 in Yakaterinburgh, Russia, under the name of BRIC. In the year 2010, South Africa was also included in this organization. After this, the name of this organization became BRICS.
Now so many member countries involved in BRICS
After the inclusion of South Africa in 2010, the BRICS expanded once again in 2024. In this, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia and UAE were also made full members. After this, Indonesia also became a full member of this organization in the very next year i.e. 2025. Apart from these, countries like Malaysia, Bolivia, Belarus, Nigeria, Cuba, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are associated with this organization as a member country. Even though Pakistan has not officially applied to join the BRICS, it has also expressed his desire to become a member of this organization many times.

The countries involved in BRICS represent 30 percent of the world’s economy.

Western countries should not be dominated by only
Since the BRICS has been formed to bring developing countries on a platform and to face the domination of Western powers, the goal of this organization is to develop a transparent and inclusive, unknown business system. Apart from this, apart from dollars in BRICS, a common currency has also been discussed. In such a situation, India is committed to global forums like BRICS to strengthen and strengthen its reach globally.
Actually, a multi -polar world of India has been raising the issue, so that the global system is not only dominated by Western countries. That is why India is using multilateral forums to strengthen its position globally, including the BRICS platform.
According to Jagannath Panda, head of the Stockholm Center for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs at the Institute for Security and Development Policy, India actually considers BRICS a multipolar base for its economic expansion even beyond West Asia. The diplomacy of this organization is focused on the major interests of India such as terrorist, energy security and climate change etc. Therefore, BRICS is also very important for India.
Beneficial for economic diplomacy
The countries involved in the BRICS represent 40 per cent of the world’s population and 30 per cent of the economy. In such a situation, India can further strengthen its relations and bilateral cooperation with the countries of the South through BRICS. Presence in this summit is also very important to promote their cooperation among global emerging economies. This also strengthens India’s economic diplomacy. Even the transaction from UPI is the result of the BRICS Summit. Through this, the possibility of business from abroad is strong with local currency outside the dollar. This reduces the dependence on dollar. Apart from this, the presence of India is also important in the BRICS, so that it does not become a global platform against Western countries and the dominance of China-Russia. This will keep India’s independent and neutral image.

These issues may be on the agenda of the summit
This time the BRICS summit is taking place at a time when the whole world has witnessed the attack on Russia-Ukraine, Israel-Iran war and Israeli’s Gaza Strip. There is a possibility that these issues will be discussed in the conference. Apart from this, there can be a detailed discussion about terrorism and India’s anti -terrorism policy can be prominently placed in the BRICD manifesto. A BRICS member countries can also make a strong shared statement on the Israeli attack in Gaza. Apart from this, America’s tariff can be criticized among the leaders of BRICS member countries. However, some countries are uncomfortable to name the US or Trump administration, in such a situation, the language of the final shared statement may be balanced.
